3 NEW DATA POINTS LAUNCHED: IDDy, IDDx & Pronation/Supination
We’re incredibly excited to offer three new data points (IDDy, IDDx and Pro/Sup) to all of our deWiz users. We have been testing these measurements with some of our deWiz coaches and ambassadors over the past few months and now are ready to unveil them to the rest of our user base! Continue reading and discover how you can apply these new data points.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INITIAL DOWNSWING DIRECTION AND TRANSITION
Before getting into the specifics of the new data points, there is an important distinction to make between the numbers presented in the IDD measurements and that of the standard Transition measurement.
Transition is a COMPARISON distance measurement between the backswing and downswing planes. Is the downswing coming over the backswing plane? Or under the backswing plane?
Conversely, the Initial Downswing Direction measurements illustrate the angle at which your hands are moving at the start of the downswing. These measurements are NOT AFFECTED by anything done in the backswing.
MARTIN HALL EXPLAINS THE NEW DATA POINT IDDy AND HOW IT CAN BE USED
In the final part of our 10-part Golfpass series with Golf Channel’s Martin Hall, Martin explains to us why the IDDy measurement is one of his favorite parts of deWiz.
The IDDy measurement is done along the y-axis, or more commonly known as the Down the Line axis. The purpose is to show whether you’re casting the club outwards in transition, or if you’re pulling your hands downwards towards the ground.
You want to imagine the club as a bow and arrow and you want to lightly throw that club away from. In doing so, the rest of your body will be moving forward, and your hands and club will follow!
A 90° IDDy measurement indicates that your hands are transitioning straight back, parallel to the ground. A 0° measurement is straight downwards, and a negative measurement indicates your hands actually transitioning downwards and towards the target.
Generally we find a good range for this IDDy measurement to between 20-40°!

IDDx IS MEASURED IN THE SAME WAY AS IDDy, BUT ALONG THE TOE/HEEL-LINE
The IDDx measurement is done in the same way as the IDDy, however along the x-axis, or the toe-heel. A 0° number indicates you’re transitioning straight down, a negative measurement means you’re transitioning towards your heels and positive is towards the toes.
A common misconception here is that this measurement is the same as the standard Transition number. Remember, the Transition data point is a DISTANCE measurement and is calculated over the first 20 cm of the downswing. The IDDx is an angle measurement and is measured from just the first 10 cm from turn.
What we we notice is that generally the best players actually transition their hands slightly towards the toes at the turn, but they are then able to get back on plane through the downswing.
So, if you’re looking for a good benchmark here, you would like to see the IDDx be in the 5-10° range while maintaining a neutral Transition.
YOU ASKED. WE LISTENED. PRONATION/SUPINATION DATA NOW LIVE
The pronation/supination measurement that many have been asking for, and we’re excited to now be able to offer it!
This measurement is pretty straightforward: are you shallowing or steepening the club in transition. We are measuring the rotation of the lead wrist through the first 10 cm from turn.
A positive number indicates steepening the shaft (supination; lead wrist rotating counter-clockwise) and a negative number shows shallowing of the shaft (pronation; lead wrist rotating clockwise).
While both Henrik Stenson and Vijay Singh have about 2° of steepening in their swings, we typically find the best players are neutral or pronating in transition in order shallow the club!
"We have never been able to measure this before with such simplicity. It's quite staggering really. I think it's a fantastic product and it's really going to help you play better". Martin HallWATCH THE VIDEOPGA of America Teacher of the Year
